The area is made up of old beach ridges and dry meadow vegetation and between these there are extensive string of wet meadows and marshes. The northern part is overlain by sand and in some places have sand dunes formed. The beach is sandy, therefore, in the north but eventually becomes rocky with a narrow edging of meadow vegetation inside.
On the heath missing tree but along the border with Glimminge planting is a curtain with pine and birch. The shrub layer is now, after extensive clearing in the early 1990s, very sparse and consists mainly of scattered junipers and some rose bushes.
